What tells you it is more than grout
Drummy tiles, movement underfoot, or staining that reappears within weeks of cleaning usually means water is getting behind the tiles. That is a waterproofing failure and it needs a licensed renovation rather than maintenance. We will tell you if that is what we find.
Common questions
- Can regrouting really make that much difference?
- On a bathroom where the tiles are sound and the grout has discoloured or cracked, yes — it is the single highest-impact thing you can do for the money. Most bathrooms that look finished are actually just badly grouted.
- What does drummy mean and why does it matter?
- A drummy tile sounds hollow when tapped, which means it has lost its bond with the bed underneath. Regrouting around it will not help, because the problem is below the tile rather than between them. Those need lifting and relaying.
- Do you do full bathroom renovations?
- No. A full renovation involves plumbing and usually electrical, both of which always require specialist licensed trades in NSW. We do the tiling and maintenance side, which is often all a tired bathroom actually needs.
